H.E.I ELECTRONIC IGNITION SYSTEMS WILL NOT WORK WITH 1973 BACK FORD/MUSTANG TACHOMETERS.  THEY ARE DESIGNED TO HOOK UP TO THE MINUS SIDE OF THE COIL.
THE MOST COMPATIBLE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR FORD/MUSTANG TACHOMETERS IS THE PERTRONIX UNIT LISTED BELOW!
Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition

I hope this will assist you in converting your conventional points system to a reliable Pertronix electronic system!!!
Note: Pertronix has introduced the Ignitor2 coil which has ballast resistance in the coil!

NOTE:
If you are using MSD call there tech support at 915-855-7123 before calling us!  Due to the complicated set up MSD uses on Ford tachs, we are not able to answer all the questions concerning their system. For 33 years we have found Pertronix is the best for Ford tachs!

MANY FUTURE CLIENTS HAVE EMAILED ME ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IN 1967/68 MUSTANG AND COUGAR TACHOMETERS.  CHECK OUT THE PICTURES BELOW AND VIEW THE DIFFERENCES.  1967/68 COUGAR TRIP SPEEDOMETERS CAN BE REFACED AND CALIBRATED TO MUSTANG 120/140 SPEEDOMETERS WITH TRIP!
 
MANY CLIENTS SEND THEIR COUGAR TACHOMETERS TO BE REFACED AND CALIBRATED FOR MUSTANG 8000 OR SHELBY 8000 TACHOMETERS.  THEY USE THE COUGAR BRAKE LIGHT FOR AN RPM LIMITER INDICATION OR OIL PRESSURE LIGHT! 
THE 1967/8 COUGAR SPEEDOMETERS WITH TRIP ARE THE SAME AS MUSTANG.  WE JUST BEAD BLAST THEM AND MAKE THEM 140 SHELBY OR 120 G.T. HOPE THIS HELPS

SOME HELPFUL INFORMATION FROM THE "TACHMAN"
DURING THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS I HAVE HAD CLIENTS CALL ME WANTING TO INSTALL A TACHOMETER IN THEIR 1967-70 MUSTANG.  MY FIRST QUESTION IS ALWAYS DO YOU HAVE A TACH HOUSING?  MANY MUSTANG OWNERS DO NOT UNDERSTAND A TACH WILL NOT FIT IN A STANDARD NON-TACH HOUSING.  I HAVE PREPARED A SERIES OF PICTURES TO SHOW YOU WHY.  THE FOLLOWING ARE PICTURES OF 1967-70 NON-TACH HOUSINGS FOLLOWED BY PICTURES OF WHAT THE TACH/SPEEDO HOUSINGS LOOKS LIKE.
 
THE ABOVE PICTURES ARE OF A 1967 MUSTANG STANDARD NON-TACH HOUSING ON THE LEFT AND A 1967 MUSTANG TACH HOUSING ON THE RIGHT!   THE SAME PRINCIPLES WILL APPLY FOR THE 1968 MUSTANG HOUSINGS.  IN THE FIRST PICTURE ON THE LEFT, BESIDE THE SPEEDOMETER IS THE OIL/ALT FOR THE 67, FUEL/ALT FOR THE 68.   IF YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT OF THE 1967 TACH HOUSING YOU WILL SEE A TACH WILL NOT FIT IN THE STANDARD HOUSING BECAUSE IT IS NOT DEEP ENOUGH, HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MOLD AND THE DIFFUSERS FOR THE LAMPS ARE DIFFERENT.  IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL A TACH IN A 67/68 MUSTANG YOU NEED THE TACH HOUSING!
 
THE ABOVE PICTURES ARE FOR THE 1969/70 MUSTANG AND AS YOU SEE THE SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY.  IN ADDITION, FOR SOME REASON, FORD CHANGED THE DEPTH OF HOW A 69/70 TRIP OR NON-TRIP SPEEDOMETER MOUNTS IN THE HOUSING. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?  YOU CAN'T MOUNT A 69/70 TRIP SPEEDOMETER IN A NON-TACH HOUSING AND IF YOU MOUNT A 69/70 NON-TRIP SPEEDOMETER IN A TACH HOUSING WITH TACHOMETER, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL BE 1/2 INCH LOWER THAN THE TACH!  HOPE THIS HELPS!
